MY WORK AS LIBRARIAN

Specialist in Reader Development

Another strand of my persona is my work as a librarian. I am a CILIP Associated member and also part of the Manchester branch of the School Library Association (committee member and newsletter editor). I have a wealth of experience running reading and creative writing groups plus implementing all sorts of book-related activities. For a while, I offered my services as reader development consultant on a freelance basis under the name "The Travelling Librarian". This included story-time sessions for the little ones both in English and Spanish, a project I called "SpanglyTales" since it was a mixture of traditional fables told in both languages.

I have also coordinated literary events such as the Manchester Book Award (YA Book Prize) and I have offered an on-line course on how to organise a YA literary prize within high schools in collaboration with a Spanish association called Atrapavientos. You can get more information about this on the "Other projects" section of this website.

From Dec 2013 to April 2017 I worked as a school librarian and social media manager at Stretford Grammar in Manchester. Click on the link to get a detailed description of all different events and outreach activities that I implemented here to engage new audiences and motivate students on my own and in collaboration with field experts and the different school departments. Feel free to try any of these ideas in your school, and if you are new to school librarianship, I'd be happy to provide advice and help you with any inquiries. Just get in touch!

SOME COMMENTS ABOUT MY WORK IN THE LIBRARY

Thank you for all the wonderful things you do for these kids; they are blessed to have your energetic input.
Mr Price-Uden, Assistant Headteacher

You have a lovely manner with the students Susana – they were enthusiastic and confident about discussing their reading.
Ms Wood - Assistant Headteacher

I talked to the Curriculum Governors last night about all of your work with Literacy and in the Library with all of the initiatives and competitions. They were hugely complimentary about your work and your contribution to the wider life of the school. We all agreed that you are an absolute asset to the school!
